Aberdeen Harbour responds to UK Government Freeports Prospectus

The UK Government has published the Freeports Prospectus, which gives further details on the UK Freeports model and sets out how bidders can apply for Freeport status in England.

In response, Michelle Handforth, Chief Executive of Aberdeen Harbour Board, said: “We welcome the publication of the UK Government Freeports Prospectus. The Freeports bidding prospectus gives further details on the UK Freeports model and sets out how bidders can apply for Freeport status in England. We wait with anticipation for information from the Scottish Government about potential models for freeports in Scotland, and the associated benefits and application process.

"As one of the busiest ports in the UK, and with our £350 million South Harbour expansion underway, we are eager to explore opportunities which will bring economic development and inward investment to our region. We will continue our positive discussions with our customers and stakeholders to realise how a Freeport in the North East of Scotland could enhance the wide range of  industries and communities we serve, to further support the vital role Aberdeen plays in the Scottish economy.”
