ABERDEEN HARBOUR’S RECORD START TO 2006
Aberdeen Harbour is set for a record-breaking start to 2006, with the largest pulp shipment yet having arrived at the port today (Monday 9 January).
The Ada Gorthon berthed at the deepwater Clipper Quay with 9,546 tonnes of woodpulp on board – 200 tonnes more than the previous largest cargo of pulp, delivered by the same vessel in October of last year.
The pulp, which will be unloaded over four days, is en route from Wilmington, Carolina to International Paper’s mill at Inverurie, Aberdeenshire. Euroline Shipping is the local shipping agent for the vessel.
Harbour Board Operations Director and Harbour Master, Captain Colin Parker, said: “The latest pulp record will be another demonstration of the port’s capacity to handle larger vessels which make an important contribution to the efficiency of a range of Scottish industries.”
Euroline’s Managing Director, Mr Mike Packer, commented: “The construction and design of this modern woodpulp carrier has enabled our company and the shipping line to grow the consignments to this latest level. It won’t be long before the five digit barrier is broken if this trend continues.”
