CRUISE SHIPS HEADING FOR ABERDEEN HARBOUR

Tonnage of shipping increases in another busy first quarter at Aberdeen Harbour.

Aberdeen is to be a port-of-call for at least nine visits by cruise ships this season which will be one of the busiest this decade.

The first to arrive will be the Grigoriy Mikheev on 15 May when she will embark passengers, before returning on 28 May, when passengers will also disembark.

Also scheduled to visit are Island Sky (21 May); Andrea (28 May), Professor Multanovskiy (31 May), Quest (2 June), Hanseatic (8 June), Andrea (20 June) and Polar Pioneer (3 July).

A number of the vessels will be embarking and/or disembarking passengers on specialist bird watching and marine life cruises around the Scottish coast, while others will bring visitors to the North-east for the day.

Aberdeen Harbour Board Assistant Harbour Master, Captain Brian Andrew, said: "The port has developed a particular role as an arrivals-and-departure point in a niche market for coastal wildlife cruises, as well as serving as a gateway for passengers visiting the North-east."
