NEW CHIEF EXECUTIVE FOR ABERDEEN HARBOUR BOARD
Captain Colin Parker has been appointed Chief Executive of Aberdeen
Harbour Board, effective 1 May 2006.
He joined the Board in 1987 as a Navigation Control Officer, becoming
Assistant Harbour Master in 1990. Harbour Master
since 1994, he was also made Operations Director and a Board member
in 2003.
Captain Parker (48) has been Chairman of the British Ports Association’s
Scottish Ports Committee since 2002 and is a member
of the Nautical Institute and The International and UK Harbour Masters’ Associations.
His maritime career began in the Merchant Navy in 1974 and he sailed
on a wide range of vessels throughout the world,
gaining his Master Mariner’s Certificate while serving in the
1980s on North Sea oil support vessels which regularly visited Aberdeen.
Harbour Board Chairman, David Paton OBE, said: “The search
for a new Chief Executive included national advertising and attracted
a high level of quality interest.
“The port is attracting record tonnages of cargo and shipping
and continues to develop additional capacity for
more traffic. We have every confidence that Captain Parker has the
experience and skills to lead the port to further success in the future.”
Captain Parker will succeed Barclay Braithwaite OBE who is retiring
in April after more than 30 years with the Board.
