VisitAberdeenshire Seeking Cruise Manager
VisitAberdeenshire are recruiting for a project manager to lead cruise ready preparations.
The purpose of the new role at VisitAberdeenshire, the lead tourism agency for Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire, is to lead the development of the cruise market to fully exploit the harbour assets and the tourism products within the region. The cruise sector is a significant growth market for Scotland, and this year passenger numbers are set to increase to 656,000, an increase of 145% from 2010 figures, adding £72 million to the Scottish economy.
The creation of the position is in recognition of the need to prepare for thousands of visitors arriving onshore who want to explore the region, and a large function of the role will be to help local businesses begin to make preparations in how they will manage this influx of visitors. The project manager will also engage with the cruise ship industry to promote the region as a cruise destination and attracts ships to the North-east. The cruise market represents a fantastic opportunity to establish Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire as a must see, must visit destination, and while the harbour extension may not be due for completion until 2020, for the region to be prepared, the process must start now.
