City Region Deal Welcomed by Harbour Chief Executive
Aberdeen Harbour Board has today welcomed the Aberdeen “City Region Deal” and the resulting funding contribution that will be made in support of its proposed £350million extension project.
“We very much welcome today’s announcement regarding the Aberdeen City Region Deal which will assist in improving supporting roads and infrastructure around our proposed extension project at Nigg Bay,” said Colin Parker, Chief Executive of Aberdeen Harbour.
“Should it receive full consent, the harbour expansion will open up the Region to a whole range of potential new markets and customers, thanks to our ability to support increased decommissioning activity, a larger cruise ship fleet, and larger commercial vessels, whilst being able to allow existing customers to diversify and expand their interests.”
“An independent report stated that the new facilities would increase Aberdeen Harbour’s economic impact for the Region to £2billion in only 20 years’ time, and help to sustain 15,000 full time equivalent jobs in the same period. This shows that the city region deal will have not only short-term benefits but kick start long term opportunities for the entire region.”
“As a Trust Port, it is the Board’s responsibility to pass on Aberdeen Harbour in the best possible condition for future generations. We are extremely grateful to the UK and Scottish governments, Aberdeen City Council and Aberdeenshire Council for their support and for giving their seal of approval to this significant contribution.”
