Minister views South Harbour as ‘Fabulous Project’
Aberdeen Harbour welcomed Baroness Fairhead, Minister of State for Trade and Export Promotion at the Department for International Trade (DIT), to the South Harbour Visitor Centre last week.
Visiting the Centre with the Minister were Craig Jones, Head of Oil and Gas at the Department for International Trade, Co-Leader of Aberdeen City Council, Jenny Laing, and Morag McCorkindale, International Trade and Investment, Aberdeen City Council. They were joined by Marlene Mitchell, Commercial Manager at Aberdeen Harbour Board.
The group discussed Aberdeen Harbour’s existing position as Scotland’s principal oil and gas port, as well as the growing opportunities across other sectors including decommissioning, international trade exports and cruise that will continue to grow upon the opening of the new port in 2020. The visitors also saw preparations being made for the arrival of the 6,000 tonne caissons.
Commenting on the Aberdeen Harbour expansion, Baroness Fairhead said it was a “fabulous project” which would reinforce Aberdeen’s contribution to international trade and industry.
The Baroness’s visit to the Centre formed part of a day-long visit to Aberdeen, where she spent time with industry representatives from Aberdeen City Council, Oil and Gas Authority, Oil and Gas UK and the Oil and Gas Technology Centre.
