Feat of engineering achieved at South Harbour site

Our South Harbour teams have overcome a big engineering challenge by removing 8,000m3 of extremely hard rock from the bed of the entrance channel. The rock was removed over seven days with several specialist vessels including Van Oord’s Goliath backhoe dredger. It will be reused in the project in the open quay revetments (Balmoral and Castlegate Quays).  Well done to everyone involved in safely achieving this milestone!

Did you know that at highest tide, our entrance channel will be 15 meters deep, meaning some of the largest vessels used in the global maritime industry can safely arrive and depart from the Harbour.
